Journey Forward: Protecting Our People, Advancing Our Nation
The 3rd National Conference on American Indian and Alaska Native Injury & Violence Prevention being held at the Oneida Resort Hotel in Green Bay, WI in Wednesday, July 15 - Friday, July 17, 2026, is hosted by the Indian Health Service (IHS) in collaboration with national and Tribal organizations committed to advancing injury and violence prevention in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. The conference is supported through collaboration with the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI), Safe States Alliance, and Seven Directions. Together, these organizations promote knowledge exchange, collaboration, and community-driven approaches to preventing injury and violence across Tribal and Urban Indian communities.
This conference brings together Tribal, Urban Indian, federal, state, and community representatives to strengthen injury and violence prevention efforts through the sharing of practical strategies, promising practices, and lessons learned. It provides a dedicated space for connection, learning, and collaboration grounded in Tribal perspectives and community experience.
Grounded in the theme Journey Forward: Protecting Our People, Advancing Our Nations, the conference honors the strength, resilience, and leadership of Tribal communities while creating space to reflect, learn, and move prevention efforts forward together.
A limited number of hotel rooms are still available for registered attendees. Remaining rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and may sell out prior to the meeting.

- Exchange knowledge and build connections with peers, practitioners, and leaders across injury and violence prevention fields.
- Strengthen knowledge on tribally driven approaches to prevent injury and violence through sessions focused on assessment, planning, evaluation, and program sustainability.
- Engage in interactive sessions that elevate Tribal perspectives and share tribally driven, evidence-informed, and practice-based approaches.
- Particitpate in networking opportunities that encourage peer exchange, relationship building, and collaboration
| Who Should Attend
This conference is designed for Tribal and Urban Indian Organization program staff, public health practitioners, researchers, evaluators, community organizations, students, federal and state representatives, and others committed to advancing injury and violence prevention in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
There is no cost to attend, however, you will be responsible to pay for your hotel accomodations and any meals not provided.
Travel Stipends
A limited number of student travel stipends will be available to support participation and learning for students engaged in injury and violence prevention–related work. Submissions have closed.
| Our Keynote Speaker
Dr. Michelle Johnson-Jennings, a Choctaw tribal member and clinical health psychologist, is a Full Professor at the University of Washington in the Schools of Social Work and Public Health, and currently serves as the co-Executive Director of the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute (IWRI), as well as the founding director of IWRI's Indigenous Environmental Health and Land-based Healing Division.
